DREFF Is Back! The Dominican Republic Is Set to Enjoy a November Full of Environmental Films and Experts—and a Lot of Surprises

August 23, 2019

The seventh edition of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) is going to be held on November 12–15, 2019 in four cities in the Dominican Republic—Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana, and Samaná—that will host high-quality short and feature-length films as well as expert panels and community activities. All with the same aim as ever: to promote environmental awareness and consciousness.

More than 10 auditoriums will host the cinematic productions that make up the DREFF program and that this year come from countries including Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the United States, and more. In line with the mission in previous festivals, the events will deal with issues related to species conservation, oceans, plastic pollution, renewable energy sources, and many other aspects of sustainable development.

Since its creation in 2011, DREFF—an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode)—has offered Dominican audiences a platform for learning and debate on the environment and sustainable development, as well as current challenges and best practices, while at the same time celebrating the unique natural beauty and wealth of the Dominican Republic and the whole world.

With a varied selection of films and various discussion panels, workshops, and community activities, DREFF promotes dialogue and exchange of knowledge and experience, inspiring the Dominican public to adopt actions contributing to the appreciation, conservation, and sustainable use of environmental resources. In bringing together young people, academics, experts, activists, filmmakers, representatives of the public and private sectors and NGOs, and a wide audience from all spheres of society, the Festival serves as a catalyst for programs and projects that contribute to environmental protection, conservation, and sustainability.

DREFF, which enjoys a wide network of national and international partners, has arrived over the years to more than 35,000 viewers around the country and continues to expand its impact throughout the Dominican Republic every day.

All information on the program of films, activities, and screening times for DREFF 2019 will be announced soon at www.dreff.org and on social networks at @MuestraCineMedioambiental (Facebook) and @MuestraCine (Twitter and Instagram).
