DREFF 2012 Film Program Now Online

The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) is quickly approaching! We are pleased to announce that the official 2012 Film Program is now available online. Start planning your 2012 DREFF experience today, and make the most of the Festival's ample offering of environmental documentary films, panels, workshops and activities.
DREFF 2012 will be celebrated September 5-9, in seven cities in the Dominican Republic: Santo Domingo, San Francisco de Marcorís, Santiago de los Caballeros, Punta Cana, Baní, Puerto Plata and Sosua, and in a total of 13 venues, making the educational event accessible to schools, universities and communities in diverse geographical locations throughout the country.
This year's Festival will be organized around 5 key thematic areas: Oceans, Biodiversity, Green Economy, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change.
DREFF will feature a selection of 24 acclaimed documentary films:
Two retrospective titles: (The Last Lions, Waste Land)
3 Dominican titles: (Terra, Dominicana Bajo el Mar II, Discover La Vega: Pride of My Land)
6 short films: (Anna, Emma and the Condors, Carbon for Water, Loretanos: Designing the Ocean’s Future,Someplace with a Mountain, Wild Wealth, Yasuni: A Wild Idea)
13 international feature films: (Big Miracle, Biophilic Design: The Architecture of Life, In Organic We Trust, Life: Challenges of Life, My Village, My Lobster, My Father, the Captain: Jacques Yves Cousteau, Revenge of the Electric Car, Sea the Truth, Surviving Progress, Taste the Waste, The City Dark, The Whale, Vegucated).
All screenings are free and open to the public and all foreign films will be subtitled in Spanish.
About DREFF
DREFF, launched by Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in September of last year, raises awareness and deepens understanding of environmental issues among Dominican audiences, while celebrating the beauty and diversity of the country's natural heritage. Through screening a diverse selection of high-quality films on matters of environmental concern, and organizing panel discussions with environmental experts, filmmakers and other stakeholders, the Festival seeks to foster dialogue and to inspire Dominican audiences to adopt practices that will ensure the health and environmental sustainability of the country.
By bringing together youth, scholars, experts, activists, filmmakers, representatives of public, private and nongovernmental institutions and the general public, the Festival promotes programs and projects that contribute to environmental protection, conservation and sustainability.

Community in Action!
Supporting grassroots organizations and communities
Among the goals of the DR Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), is to include and support grassroots organizations and communities, schools and young people in general.
Marcos Diaz
A real Universal Community leader and spokesman for the core values of the UN Millennium Development Goals as it is the Dominican swimmer Marcos Diaz. He will meet a group of youth, who will have a swimming competition, at La Caleta. The expected goals of this activity is to offer an opportunity to youth of disadvantaged areas to interact with Marcos, and to get a better understanding for the role model that Marcos represents for Dominicans and the rest of the world, as well as a better understanding of the sea and this protected area of La Caleta.For more details about Marcos Diaz visit Dominican Get-Together in the Big Apple
